Boston Pizza started in Edmonton, Alberta, August 12, 1964, when Greek immigrants, Gus Agioritis opened Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House. In 1970, Boston Pizza has 17 locations in Western Canada, of which 15 were franchised.
One of the first franchise was Jim Trelivings, Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. In 1968, he noticed the growing popularity of Boston Pizza and acquired the rights to open in Penticton, British Columbia restaurant. While in Penticton, he met George Melville, a Certified Public Accountant. He served as Trelivings business consultant for four years, and in 1973 became Trelivings business partner. Within 10 years, they have opened 16 restaurants in British Columbia.
Boston is the US and the Mexican version of Boston Pizza franchise. In 1998, the North American headquarters were established in Dallas, Texas. The name was changed to Boston Pizza Boston Gourmet Pizza. Boston has over 30 stores flyer in the Canada and four in Mexico.
